I absolutely love their covers of Whiskey in the Jar, Turn the Page, and Tuesday’s Gone. I wish they would make an original album with those kind of style of songs. Whenever they try and make a metal album now it sounds like a generic version of what they did on their first four albums. Heck, I would even love a new covers album from them.
I always like Load, and them going into a hard rock/southern rock/blues rock direction.
On Garage inc favourite song would be Sabbra Cadabbra. Sonically the whole album sounds so good.

Self titled, Load, Reload, S&M and Garage Inc disc 1 all sound incredible. Especially Garage Inc. Metallica had THE SOUND in the 90s. Idk how they can be ok with the modern generic loud bullshit they put out now. Everything since St Anger has been hard on the ears. Garage Inc is the perfect metal record from a production/mix standpoint. Musically its all over the place, and lyrically I find some of the songs obnoxious/not for me. But no one can deny that sound.

They released a proshot of the 2011 Big 4 Yankee Stadium gig I attended a few years back. Blackened, Battery and Creeping Death in one show was awesome. All top 5 songs for me. Doubt Ill ever get Bleeding Me or Fixxxer even once (my other top 5). They only ever played Fixxxer for the 40th anniversary and James really struggled to sing it. (He had to overdub it afterwords for the proshot video).

Only problem is the hideously out of tune guitars on the new recordings for the album. Still love Garage Inc, but that breakdown for Sabbra is painful.

Maybe the best Fight Fire Ive ever heard from Metallica. James is on point. Jason backing vocals elevate the song so much.

Fight Fire With Fire
Battery
Damage Inc
Blackened

These are maybe the best thrash songs ever. There are other great thrash Metallica songs but those 4 feel like an unofficial quadrilogy kinda like how Bleeding Me, Outlaw Torn and Fixxxer feel like an unofficial trilogy. Maybe its just the fact that they all open or close an album, have intros, are fast, not overly long, and catchy. And the band never seems to play them all at the same show (I dont know that for a fact but I cant recall any setlist with all 4.)

Musically the band was still capable of writing great thrash songs into the 2000s and 2010s. That Was Just Your Life, My Apocalypse and Spit Out The Bone would be regarded as legendary thrash songs on par with the quality of the first 4 albums if they had come out in the 80s. The modern production/vocals/mix get in the way of how good those songs really are.
