I am a casual fan.

I remember I liked Death Magnetic a lot. What are your favorites?

This one's tough.

Kill em All

Puppets

Lightning

Black

Justice

Hardwired

Magnetic

ReLoad

That which shall not be snared.

This is off the top of my head. Feels right, may change.

Metallica is at its best when they have over the top instrumentals.

I hate Enter Sandman.

St Anger

Death Magnetic

Black

Load

Reload

The rest have songs like For Whom the Bell Tolls, Fade to Black, Master of Puppets, One.

One doesn't get talked about much but it was the first Metallica song I heard.

Go home, you're drunk.
I didn't buy albums until AFD came out. So I never bought early Metallica albums . I like Rust in Peace the most and Megadeth have way more  albums I like.

The Black album was good in the UYI era. Load is a good album of listenable material.

St Anger and DM are ones I listened to the most by far. DM is probably their best album overall. Songwriting is strong. It's their Back in Black.

But early Metallica songs like Bell Tolls and Fade to Black are great.

I think Death Magnetic is underappreciated.

And it was mixed by Rubin. He ruins everything he touches.

I think Rubin got them back on track after St Anger and all the pop rock ballads. Not as pure as the early stuff but a good summary with good songs across the board. Sound is kind of too compressed though.

All Nightmare Long is great.

It has some ok songs, like most of their albums. I listened to the Guitar Hero version (or maybe it was Rock Band?) whenever that was released because it sounded a bit better.

There's a remixed version of it online. People mixed it properly from the Guitar Hero tracks, and seeing the reception to it, they released Death Magnetic (optimized for itunes) or aome shit. I have the fan made one and it's so much better than original. No clipping.

Kill Em All (their only flawless album imo)

Ride the Lightning

And Justice for All (I don't listen to it a lot but it's a strong, impressive achievement)

No Life Till Leather

Master of Puppets (the great songs are GREAT, not my cup of tea overall though)

Metallica (good commercial metal album, only one or two weaker songs)

Garage Inc (honestly not that good looking back, the sabbath, lizzy and motorhead covers are horrendous, but there are enough good songs overall)

The rest? In the words of Papa Het

What was that S&M Metalica album with the orchestra? Was that official Metallica album?
