The Vidya Game Thread

They’re still gonna do it but they’re just not going to advertise it.

The only way that gets fixed is lawfare

Some idiot called Twisted Metal 4 “problematic” and full of “offensive stereotypes” which I couldn’t for the life of me remember. I think there was a short Irish guy sort of like a leprechaun, that could’ve been it.

Oh. Oooooh.

New apartment. Finally able to play Xbox again. But never been much of a gamer. Any AAA gaming reccomendations for someone who hasn't played most major games besides Halo, Batman Arkham and a couple others?

Xbox has been having a rough go of it. There aren't very many new 1st Party games.

I would check out:

  • Ori and the Will of the Wisps
  • It Takes Two (co-op only)
  • Cyberpunk 2077
  • The Witcher 3 (very long/time consuming)
  • Death's Door

Elden Ring, Baldurs Gate 3, and Hades are really popular but I've never played them.

1. Red Dead Redemption 2

2. Get a PS5

Borderlands 3. Kick ass game.

I finished Assassin's Creed 2 by assassinating the pope in the Sistine Chapel.

I would, yeah. I think RDR1 is way better than RDR2 personally but it's also way shorter. RDR2 is extremely long.

What about Red Dead Revolver? Its apparently the first game in the series. But I'm guessing it's not as good because I had never heard of it. Still, I'm kind of an OCD autist when it comes to playing things in order.

Revolver is very, very loosely connected to Redemption 1/2.

NPCs will make some vague references to the characters but that's about it.

Redemption is a story-driven open world "GTA but with horses" game. Revolver is an arcade shoot em up game where you just kill waves of enemies.

I remember Revolver. It was ok, but I seem to remember Gun being the better Western at the time. But nah you don't need to play Revolver to play Redemption.

Should I play Red Dead Redemption 1 first?
RDR2 is a prequel to RDR1 so I guess it's whatever you prefer.  Kind of similar debate to what order to watch Star Wars in.  I played RDR2 first and to be honest it probably ruined RDR1.  The graphics are way better in 2 so 1 felt like a let down to me.

I started playing Red Dead Redemption 1 last night. I'm gonna give it some more time. But I'm not sure if this game is for me.

The gameplay seems kinda clunky and tedious. It could have the greatest story in the world, but if the core gameplay is just awkwardly riding on horses, awkwardly shooting guns in slow motion and awkwardly stumbling around like a jackass, Im just not sure how I can get into this.

It does seem really cool with all the side stuff and I can understand why someone would enjoy it. I just don't know if it's something I want to dedicate my time to. Maybe it's because I was just playing Arkham Knight able to zip around the city at a million miles an hour and beat the shit out of people and this just feels slow in comparison. Idk.

How far are you? It starts very slowly.

But half of the fun is collecting herbs and skinning animals and stuff like that.

I felt the same when I played it.  I didn't get very far and shelved it.  RDR2 however had me hooked the second it started.  Long games take me anywhere between 4 months to a year to finish with the limited time I have.  RDR2 was so good it was finished in under a month.  The only game I finished faster was Last of Us part 1.  If you can't get into either of those two games I don't know what else to recommend.
