The Eternal General - 04/24 - Unpinned but alive; Atlas/Monsters nowhere in sight; Slash 'Orgy of the Damned' next month

No way they don't give this a digital release.  They're waiting for the vinyl sales to ship first.
The tour has a month left. This band is not very bright.

I might just get some Chinese tonight. I’m tired of waiting for these clowns to release their balloon animal.

Let's say a few nukes go off. We are living underground. All touring is cancelled. How much would you pay for a new GNR album getting emailed to you?
Whatever CD was sold for as part of the best buy store deal is how much I'm paying.

There has to be a catch that it is an instrumental or completely rubbish like silk worms. I refuse to believe the idea that Rose would drop a brand new unheard song on his much abused fanbase.

The General will be new but the song will be old.

This band has been mismanaged for years, so you can't look at what they do and think of it from a sensible perspective of marketing.

My theory is that for one reason or another, this is a pure NuGNR song, with no Slash or Duff.

If the idea is that The General is going to be an eventual single for a new album, so they don't want to burn it now, why bother releasing it as a B-side? For new album, I don't mean CD II. I assume the next album will be some sort of 'Best Of' compilation that they will tack these 4-6 new songs on to in order to make it seem like there was any sort of productivity during this era of the band.

At this point, they should have just released CD II as an Axl solo album. He can't sing these new songs live. The band, or label, or someone doesn't seem to be behind them at all. There also is very little demand for new GNR music. Axl's original argument about keeping the GNR name for label/fan support made sense in the 90s and early 00s. Now, there is no interest in new GNR music relative to those times, and the level of marketing push for new GNR music seems comparable to just dropping lyric videos.

If they took the best 40-50 minute of music they had left and released it as Axl's solo album, at least in the short term, it would draw more interest than most of what they released so far under the GNR name.

Obviously, releasing a full fledged album of original material with a proper marketing push under the GNR name would hugely trump any Axl solo album, but that isn't going to happen. The point is, if they are just going to do these mickey mouse releases, it defeats the point of propping up Axl's previous solo material with the GNR name.

It's really good. Better than Panda Express. Their sweet and sour is pretty good too...avoid the orange, spicy, and honey chicken.

It's definitely a weird release that makes little sense. It's why I'm leaning towards it being the final Chinese release. The B side is a bone being tossed to us. It's why I'm not going to complain too much about the likelihood of a vinyl only release. We're lucky we're getting it at all.

This is a great point. It sucks to always have to take their incompetence into consideration. It's why the fan base can never actually enjoy any of their releases. There always has to be a ton of shit surrounding everything.

My theory is that for one reason or another, this is a pure NuGNR song, with no Slash or Duff.
No way. I can see why some would believe this but I don't think anything will ever be released again that doesn't have Slash and Duff on it.

The Big 3 are GNR at this point...not 1 + an irrelevant cast of characters.

Those days are gone forever.

If the idea is that The General is going to be an eventual single for a new album, so they don't want to burn it now, why bother releasing it as a B-side?
Probably because we're not getting an album.

I know one final album is the dream (mine too) but it no longer looks very promising.

Here's why:

There also is very little demand for new GNR music.
The ship has long sailed on the big comeback album. The only time it made a lick of sense...2016-17...they didn't care because it was all about the money. 2016 was when pop culture was actually paying attention...a summer 2016 album with all these songs probably would've actually sold 2-3 million. These Slash and Duff additions to the songs should've already happened by the time of Vegas and Coachella. Instead they waited four years to touch any of those songs.  :Classic_Troll:

Now? Nobody cares. What makes it even worse is they don't have management that could convince the world to start caring. They can't even release one song properly...how they gonna get the world to care about an album? Each single release has fuck ups. Imagine these people unveiling an actual album.

It's not in the cards.

The fact that they're unloading the biggest gun of all times as a B side to an already dead single tells us all we really need to know about the near future.

Best case scenario...we get Atlas as they're wrapping everything up and GNR goes on hiatus for 2024 and maybe longer.

Whatever is happening, we're in the home stretch.

I'd love if The General turned out to be some weird atmospheric experimental piece that sounds like Axl left a tape recorder running in the Amazon for 6 minutes. Complete with howler monkeys and jungle drums. :pepelol:

One more thing...

The locker leaks and the complete lack of interest in them was a sign that no one was interested in new music.

Not a single media outlet reported the leak when it happened.

The only people who cared were us, and these forums would only account for at most 500 albums sold.

The crazy thing is that something like this can't even be ruled out.

The way they operate almost guarantees some sort of disaster.

I know one thing...

I no longer expect some massive epic. Luckily we don't have long to find out.

This is likely because every media outlet that reported it would've been blacklisted or held back from coverage/exclusives, etc.

Many of the old leaks articles from 2006-2008 are no longer accessible.

I will agree the appetite isn't there for new GNR music though.
