Will Monsters meet the same fate as Better?

Song leaks and is a clear choice for first single. Appeals to casual, regular, and hardcore fans alike. Band waits two fucking years and then releases it as the second single even though they knew the first song they released after so many years would get a shit tonne of airplay.  Instead they waste all that airplay on a song that is without a catchy chorus, memorable hook, or signature Axl Rose vocal. They also pass on putting Better in a Harley Davidson commercial that leaked online. I don’t get it. We have the first song since the early 90’s that both the Fatman and Gravy Biceps shine on together and it is stuck in purgatory.

The singles released as part of the reunion ive never understood.

A reworked Silkworms is the first single as part of the reunion. Why this song?. I have never understood it.

What is it in Axls head that of all the songs from the CD archives on a usb thumbstick he chooses this one?.

I can understand HS as it has links to the 90s, and recorded with the big 3 back in the 90s.

Perhaps is kind of an Estranged song, but the vocal processing at the beginning makes the song sound like dogshit.

If Axl wants to be lazy and not do new vocals on these singles then they deserve to fail.

If they follow the G side / R side thing.
Atlas would be an A side sounding song.
Then Monsters is another R side from Axl.

What really counts is which songs get a full video. If Monsters gets a Since I Don't Have You style video that would give it a chance.

They've always done things against the grain. Putting out It's So Easy wasn't really the commercial thing to do.
Even AFD wasn't what was going on at the time. They put out Garden of Eden as a video single. They are pretty unpredictable, other than you know it's going to be a disaster.

I think they are happy to do something different than try to top the old classic material.  The main thing is the feud is over and they are working together again.

If Oklahoma ever got a vocal that could be a good hard rock style song.
State of Grace has some epic vocals on it, if Slash beefs it up and adds solos it could be great.

Atlas and Monsters are pretty decent UYI style songs.

It sends a pretty clear message: stop waiting for good songs.

Perhaps and Hardschool are filler. Not bad, but nothing special. The General and Absurd are not good. Atlas was mediocre and probably hasn't been improved.

Monsters is the exception - an actual gem from the vault, a song good enough that even the simplified NITL version is strong. If they'd released even an EP back in 2017~ with that as the lead single, the reunion would've been a lot more respectable. But of course whenever they do release Monsters, they'll botch it. Again.

It was the dead canary in the coalmine.

The only song left I give the tiniest of shits about is Oklahoma...and it probably wasn't even finished. The rest weren't so I doubt it was the lone exception.

The CD II tracks...

A verse, a chorus, processed to shit, essentially a demo, with an extra Caram spit shine.

Yabba Dabba Doo.

Oklahoma and Zodiac are definitely the most interesting ones. I wouldn't be surprised if those (and Quick Song) did get vocals at some point... whether they're 'complete' is a different question though. There's no logic in any of the CD2 singles - he's got lyrically completed songs like SOG, which would actually benefit from Slash's guitar style, but he's fine with releasing copy/pasted demos instead.

The Rebel is the kind of song I could easily imagine Slash and Duff playing on, but I doubt that got vocals.

The only real guideline at this point on what probably had vocals is the MSL email from eons ago regarding a potential followup/remix release...

Cuban Skies
The General
Atlas Shrugged
Soul Monster
Silkworms (Absurd)
Thyme
Goin Down
Tonto
Monstrocity
Nothing
Jackie Chan (Hard School)
Perhaps
OMG2
4 Heavens
Light My Fire

The chances of there being more than that are virtually zero.

If you believe that's real.......

If you believe that's real.......

Obviously there's conning going on with those guys but there is meat on that bone...a handful of song titles no one had known publicly at the time (Perhaps, Nothing, Tonto).

100% true? Probably not....that's why it's just a guideline.

We'll probably never know.

Funny the songs you listed Perhaps, Tonto, Nothing were all on the village sessions disc.

My favorite moment in the song is when Slash plays that little descending guitar lick right before Brain drops the hammer and Axl starts screaming. That's pure Zeppelin right there. It is a crime that this song hasn't been officially released yet.

The Sad Truth about the Fate of "Monsters":

The reason the 7" was Delayed was because they printed the Fan Club 3 Song 7"s instead of the Retail 2 Song 7"

The General & Monsters was ripped off one of those 7"'s and then Leaked.

Monsters will be nothing but a 3rd Track on the Fan Club only 7" this Year.

"Monsters" Peak of Existence was the Day it Leaked.

Just another for the scrap heap.🤨

This is sadly accurate. Taking their best song and releasing it as a fan-club exclusive b-side is exactly the type of thing they'll do.

It's ridiculous. Monsters isn't really comparable to anything else in their catalogue and has a CD kind of sound, but still appeals to people who like classic rock/metal in general. My friends who like the classic band but not the NITL singles, all liked Monsters. The vocals are incredible and the outro is the most tasteful, 'classic' playing I've heard from Slash on any of these singles. But it will go unnoticed.
