Half of Chin Dems sales numbers were Independent Record Stores that bought copies to stock their shelves thinking that it would actually sell , and actually be good.

They all got Fackin Stiffed,

the same copies probably still collect dust on their shelves

I got my Copy at the Dollar Store thats right next to The King of Donairs.

My lunch that day costed more than the most expensesive album in History 😆

It's a pity Best Buy agreed that deal. It would have been hilarious to see the true sales figures from a normal release.

I think it would have sold more with a general release with promotion like videos and a US tour at time of release. Not a year later in Asia.

Best Buy deal was basically controlling the sales. Take no risks. They could have released 3 cds in 6 years and sold 10 mil overall. CD sold 2.6 mil world wide no promo that rock fans care about. No videos, no interviews, no tour. It's almost like living in communist China. At least in China I could buy the album on every corner store. Best Buy is maybe the least rock n roll place on earth.

But Axl might have to start the off with a  riot here and there to get things going. Need to hire a few choppers for videos. Models on poles for the This I Love video.  Get Mickey Rourke riding a Harley for the Shackler's video.

Out of all the marketing plans, Azoff found the worst one. Actually doing a deal with Dollar Store would have sold more copies. Sell with tickets to a show. They pick the where OAPs go to buy a Duster Buster.

I'm sure they know what they are doing as 15 years later real GNR are about to release The General as a b side.

Holy shit I thought you were joking.

I don't even remember that.

Yeah I could see the Perhaps logo being added if they have a warehouse full of these.

Record player

Perhaps/The General

Hard School EP

Scented candle

Toy truck

For the low, LOW price of $1200

While supplies last.
I have this record player.

Use it all the time. It's decent.

Azzof managed VR for Contraband? There was an animated video for Dirty Little Thing? There were 3 videos I think.

It's not really that hard, do a videos for a couple of songs and don't try to force an ex guitarist into the band on the day of release. Maybe wait a couple of years.

When on any album do they ever operate like they did for CD?

That video for Dirty Little Thing was meant to be for Sucker Train Blues.

The band thought the single was STB but management did a 180 at the last minute and changed the single to DLT

The video is them singing on a subway car FFS.

Even VR was poorly managed.

It seems like around that time it was more about touring. So Axl worrying about an album was out of step.

At least VR had some radio friendly songs and videos. The Slither or Fall to Pieces videos were proper standard videos. That Better video looked fan made, so does Perhaps  video in parts.

A manager in my mind doesn't do a deal for an album then think promo is breaking up the band. It seems calculated.

I guess if you make videos and do promo CD might be successful then there would be no reunion.

Even VR was poorly managed.
Imagine them with good management. They would've been the fucking Beatles.

That was embarrassing. I've actually seen better fan made videos than that.

What made it even worse were the delays and excuses... culminating in blaming it all on Lars, which wasn't even true.

Then when it finally leaked, we saw it was made by either a complete imbecile or a child.

God that was such a shit era of the band, and it was just getting started.

The F'N Fan Made video for the

Hardschool (demo) is made from the same kinda tour footage as Perhaps & Better. ...

And it's still far superior to either of GNRs dime store productions

And at least 100x better than GNRs attempt at a Hard Skool video

I wonder if VR were mismanaged and closed down by 2008 on purpose too.

It seems around 2009 both Axl and Slash were kind of available for a reunion.

Azoff just orchestrated New Guns to fit his agenda. He probably said just do the BB deal we'll do some videos, get you a Van Halen tour and put out CD II in 2009. Don't worry, trust me.

A normal manager doesn't have a vested interest in the demise of the band. Just to make money for himself? Doesn't he have enough money?

VR break up was a legit slow decent.

I believe Axl did have a hand in it.

His  comments after Slash's visit exposed the cracks

It was also well documented that most of the band relapsed on the Contraband tour.

(this was the begining of the end, as the drugs would soon tear the band apart)

Then came time to make album #2.

They had to Record it twice the first attempt was so bad.

When the album disappointed sales wise , and the Tour began with everyone pointing fingers about drugs and relapses.

Slash , Diuff, Matt had their gang and some insular protection

Weiland was singled out, and had the blame shifted all on him.

On tour in Europe they planned on kicking Scott out after last show of the tour leg.

Sensing it was fucked, Scott quit with a onstage announcement during final show.

The Tour and Breakup was documented on both sides by Classic Rock Magazine with a Cover story on the bands end.

Most saw it coming,

Not planned , but some GNR/ Axl influence seemed to accelerate their downfall.

I don't think they needed to mismanage VR to get Slash, Duff, and Sorum to ditch it for a bigger gig in GNR. There were already talks of an '06 reunion, so there was obviously an appetite to work together. Axl allegedly tried to get them to sign over the publishing rights, or something like that, and the reunion imploded.

I think with VR, it's just a bunch of difficult people who apparently at different times had drug issues, and when the CDs stopped selling, why put up with each other anymore? It wasn't really an organic band, which is ironic, because that was always the criticism of NuGNR.

I am way out of touch with record players, but as of 10 or so years ago, Pro-Ject were a go to for an entry-level record player. At $500 or whatever they used to be they are good record players that the average person won't ever feel the need to upgrade. It's not like a Crosley or a gimmick record player.

Pending whatever the GNR merch upcharge was compared to what the player should sell for, it's surprising that they actually partnered with a decent manufacturer instead of just releasing a junk table with the GNR logo.

Mismanage is maybe too much but maybe Slash and Azoff kind of compared notes on how Axl and GNR were going. Both bands were kind of winding around 2008, until Axl got going again end of 09.

It seems like they almost had to come to the decision themselves and any third party just confused things.

Axl did tour CD into the ground. That's what they did. I'm sure they said they were about to try to put CD II out, but there was no industry involvement or mention. They had no manager. There was a window there in 2008.

If Slash joined in 08 it would be over by 2016?

When Slash loses interest he kind of sulks and complains. It just seemed convenient timing. Azoff was probably saying don't worry I'll get you the reunion tour with Axl.

I like Libertad well enough, in someways a little more interest here there. The third album didn't look very likely. There was less pressure on the solo stuff.

All roads lead to the GNR reunion.

Exactly. My equipment is nowhere near high end, but it's not shit either

I put a new needle on the turntable, and it's great.

All in Locked $ Loaded with the turntable was about 750

Yep.

In fall 2005 both Weiland and Ross Halfin let the cat out of the bag...reunion was being planned and Halfin went further and said the original GNR were supposed to headline Download. Also rumours of the Stones wanting a reunited GNR to open one of their shows.

This is also when the Best of Guns N Roses 2 disc compilation was announced with Shadow of Your Love on it as the obvious single.

It all went tits up, GH 2 canceled, GNR leaks happen and a quickly thrown together tour announced, VR gets back together for another album, Axl starts talking shit, etc.

Everything fits in the 2005-6 timeline. When they finally reunited, I hoped they would clear the air on this but unfortunately they don't say anything of substance. One of these days we'll find out they tried reuniting several times during the 2000s.

Look what wound up being the first single after the reunion happened...

All of this should've happened in 2006.

Wasnt there interviews or some leaks from the Slash camp to minimise the fallout that said the only reason this never eventuated was because unbeknown to slash, Axl was wanting Slash to sign over his publishing or songwriting rights to Axl or something around those lines........
